I was playing really hard the other day and the top two speakers of my Ampeg 4X10 cab would light up. It would only do this when the treble was set fairly high. Is this just a warning mechanism of the cab or am I doing something very very bad?

Don't worry, some cabs have a bulb inside to bleed off high frequency when it gets strong enough to blow the tweets. It's a safety feature for the tweets, the bulb will blow first before the tweets are ruined. Turn the tweets down in the back of the cab and roll off the treble on the head a tad and you will be fine. :)
