Greetings all, First post! I'm in the market for a compact rig to replace my combo amp for smaller gigs. After reading countless positive reviews, I'm pretty much set on a GB Streamliner. I'm leaning towards the 900, since I will also use it to power a Berg NV610 for larger shows. For a smaller rig, I'm thinking the STM paired with a 210 (really going for portability). Will the STM 900 be too much? If I get an 8 ohm 210 cab rated @ 700 watts, the STM 900 would only be pushing 500 watts. Would this be a good pairing? Any suggestions are appreciated! Chris
I would not worry about wattage ratings and concern yourself with finding a cab that sounds good with a Streamliner. I found it somewhat difficult and went through a few cabs before I found something that could work with it. They are very picky amps. I ended up going with a pair of Bag End S15D's, they were perfect for that amp. In the end I sold it, it just didn't jive with me that way that I wanted it to. It's a cool amp for sure, but it sounds better on paper.
You can get a STL900/Uber Quad combo for $1408 at Rocket Music http://www.rocketmusic.net/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?search=action&category=SPCL&keywords=all
I'm using a NeoX 212T with my Streamliner 900. It's a great pairing and the cab only weighs 53lbs and is super easy to transport. You could go with the updated version, NX2 212T and it is a few pounds lighter.
There are a number of cabs that pair well with the Streamliner. The NeoX and NX2 212T mentioned above, Berg CN212 or AE410, Bag End SD15, sealed 610 or 810, Uber 410 or 115, XSonics 215 or 212, Barefaced Super 12T, GK Neo 115, Baer ML112, etc. Two things these cabs all have in common that makes them work are tight controlled lows and strong mids.
Just be careful if you go with the NeoX/NX2, as it's 600w/4 ohms. It'll sound great, but the 900 watts is definitely capable of blowing the drivers if you crank it.
+1 With power comes responsibility. Be smart about how you tap into that headroom, control your dynamics, and listen for any sounds of distress.
I pair my Streamliner with either a pair of bag End s15d's or a GK Neo212. I actually slightly prefer the Gallien but but setups sound fantastic.
The Streamliner needs to be paired with a rather mid-oriented cab in my opinion. Or, at least, not a scooped one. Sealed cabs would be a great match in particular for the improved tightness in the low end. Basically all the cabs suggested till now would sound good in my opinion. I'm pairing my 900 with a Berg HS 210 which has a very tight low end and a wide, mild boost in the mids.
