Cabinet / Brand Signature Sounds

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by Jim Wheeler, Jan 3, 2004.

  1. While some manufacturers go for a flat sound - I think EA claims that, and Accugroove - others have a "smiley face EQ sound". Signature Sound.

Does anyone have a reference table or list or ?? that defines, e.g., the Aguilar sound from the Ampeg sound from the SWR sound from the Eden sound, etc.?

    It might be like this:

    Brand A:__+xdB@40__-xdB@200__-xdB@800_+xdB@4200
    Brand B:__-ydB@40__+ydB@200__-ydB@800_+ydB@4200
    Brand C:__+zdB@40__-zdB@200__-zdB@800_+zdB@4200

Even as an approximation would be helpful.

I doubt you will find one.

    It would be interesting, though.

Probably the best you could come up with around TB-Land would be to get a few of the guys that have had a lot of exposure to a lot of different cabs to come up with a 2 to 4 sentence synopsis of the characteristics of each cab with which they are familiar.

Even then, there could be subjective disagreements between two different people's descriptions, but you would get some general impressions.

Another helpful way to approach this might be to compare each cab to an industry standard cab most bassists would be familiar with, like say an Eden D-410XLT (where and how is the cab different from the sound of the XLT?).
