I'm saving up money for a new amp and cabs and I'm trying to figure out what kind of cabs 2 get, I'll be getting a 1200 watt head, and the amp choices are

    2x15 w/ 4x10, or an 8x10.

    or 2, 2x15, 2, 4x10, possibly 2, 8x10

i'm looking for a clear but still relativley bassy sound. not trebley not ultra sub, just what it normally sounds like with eq flat on my amp and with my g&l l-2000. play alt. rock and the g&l has the aggresive tone I need, but I'm still wondering what everyone would suggest.

I like to be prepared. somtimes my amp is loud enough to be heard, other times, well. any way. our guitarists are both upgrading their rigs to something louader, bass is important to our sound, and I like knowing that I won't have to push the envolope.

id would also like to know why you suggest these cabs. because I do not think I would get 2 2x15's simply because of the chance that clarity will be an issue.

thnx. sorry I'm new to choosing cabs, and I can't really test them out because I'll have to order them through our sponsor. I have played through the 2x10 combo version which was actually very nice. (one bass amp and 3 guitar amps for the guitarist to run through)

2x15 in a rock band have no clarity issues, as long as you aren't using junk speakers. The Peavey BW-215 is one of the clearest sounding cabs i've ever heard. Similarly, most Ampeg 10" speakers have sounded extremely muddy to me. Size doesn't determine clarity.

I already know the brand of cabinets and am getting them through our sponsor. alternative rock, which could mean a variety of things, but my personal sound is slightly aggresive and can be pulled back to something a little warmer depending on the song.

I will likely rarely put the volume past 5, but I thought about this when I first got my 100 watt, and it is now being drowned out by our guitarists and exceptionally loud drummer.

I was originally going to get the 2x15 and 4x10 because those are what the company offers and it would not cost me a bundle. my main experiance is with the 1x15 in my current amp which sometimes gets boomey, and recently just doesn't sound quite as clear as I originally percieved, which is also why I am considering an 8x10, one package, may have all I need.

the company I will be using is Kustom (creedance clearwater anyone?) they our a supplier to my bands sponsor store.

Any brand in particular? New? Used?

My favorite cab of those I've played is the Bergantino NV215. Not cheap though. In older cabs, I like Mesa Diesel series 215. Plenty of punch and enough high end for bass. Very strong in the low mids, though the ones I had weren't the best for a super loud low A (downtuned 5 string). Bang for the buck of cabs I've tried were Celestion "road" -something- subs. $250 new for a 215 at Guitar Center, though cheaper on sale - I got 2 for $99 each. Not great subs, actually, but very good bass cabs run full range.

You might have figured out I voted for 2 215s.

  10. What brands are you considering? A Bergie 610 should take care of just about anything volume wise...

I will be using kustom. the ones that i have played which were smaller 10-15 watt ones all sound very good.

as I have stated before I will be using Kustom, I can get the 1200 watt head and cab(s) at a much lower price than I would retail or direct order.

i do not think that they currently offer a 2x12, though the head can be set between 250, 400, and 600 watts for each cab. basically 500 800 an 1200 watts total.

  14. Your band's supplier carries nothing but Kustom?

Ah... you posted while I was typing so I didn't see it... the Kustom 1200 watt amp has its fans here, somebody should have some experience with the cabs.

I voted for 2, 410s, but I am liking 212s more these days. Also, I opted for mulitple small boxes because I'm getting old, sore and I drive a jetta.

  17. With Kustom cabs, the only ones I've had good experience were the 215s. All of the cabs are pretty inefficent (but you do have 1200 watts...) and all of the cabs with 10s in em just sounded bad to me. Lows were a bit lacking, highs were shrill and ugly.

I can't stand kustom cabs so i honestly can't recommend any of those. Are you actually sponsed by kustom itself? if not i suggest you attempt to get them to change thier minds about giving you only kustom cra....i mean gear.

Get something else, say a berg610? and then put a KUSTOM label over it. that way you wont hurt hte feelings of the guy hwo is making money off of selling you only kustom gear
