    I need cabinet help.

I have a Aura Sound 12” driver. Part number 86-027-08.

I googled the number and found http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f15/ampegs-pb-series-cabs-132512/

Hinting that the driver might be from a Ampeg Portabass PB112, I looked up specs on the cabinet and found the dimensions 17x17x12. Assuming 3/4” material, this is a 1.72 ft^3 cab.

Looking at the PB112 pictures, it looks sealed. Anyone know?

Can I just make a sealed back cabinet with the internal volume 1.72 and enjoy? How much volume should I add for the driver? Add some kind of batting? Add a port? What size port?

I thought I might find wisdom reading this thread but I struggled getting through it all.

I have a wood shop so cutting/bracing/assembling is not a problem.

    Thanks for any help.

Don't assume that just because it was used in a particular cab that it should have been. The only way to know what will work best is to get the driver T/S specs and model it with a speaker box program. The comments made in that old thread indicate that the Aura driver gave less than stellar results, and that Ampeg dropped it in favor of Eminence.

My PB110 was a sealed cab.

FWIW, the I thought my PB-110 was a fun cabinet. The angled front makes figuring the volume a little more tricky. You are concerned with internal dimensions. It's baffle as 3/4", the sides and back were 1/2". It was well lined with fabric inside.

Given that experience, my recommendation is to try to mimic the cab to a large degree. Sealed cabs have a charm all their own and since you don't have the T/S parameters you don't really have a good shot at getting a ported design right for that speaker anyway. I'd probably skip the angled baffle.

    Good luck.

Thanks everyone. I know that Thiele-Small parameters are necessary but I couldn't find them searching the net the last few days. Without these, I was hoping just to mimic the Ampeg cab and move to the next project.

If anyone can find the T/S info, please share. I do have winisd and I can ply kraigo with homebrew if I need help.
