If you were selling a cab with a name on it, what would you do?

The cab I have has a bass player's first and last name stencil painted in white on one side of a tolexed cab.

I mean, he's still playing and on the web.

I don't think vinyl spray painting it will really hide it.

    Just wondering.

No pics 'cause, you know, privacy. At least until I decide what to do.

It would depend on the cab and how bad the stencil looks. Unless is says “Billy Cox” or something it never looks too good.

I would leave the name alone and sell it as is. The new owner can decide what to do about it.

I bought it from the guy who stenciled it.

It's a pretty neat job of painting. About 3" letters. 4 letters in first name, 5 in last name.

    Provenance?

  8. So far so good. Who are you to him? Any difference to him who owns his stencil? Doubtful he gives a fat rat's so your question is all about the sale value of "as is" vs cleanup options that might or might not be better looking than a random stencil?

I'm the guy who gave him money.

The cab is a 60's Sunn so I'll probably just leave it as is. Part of its history.

Graffiti remover in a spray can from the Big-box store. Use it carefully though...if you get carried away, it can soften the Tolex.

A stiff bristled brush can help get into the textured surface.

    Meh

If he cared he would have removed it before he sold it.

I have used EZ Off oven cleaner to get paint off of a cab, but be careful--it's nasty, it can ruin the cab depending on the tolex, and it is NASTY. But I used it to clean up a Fender HRD, and it worked really well.

I have one with a pretty cool logo on the back, but I got it cheap, and it's on the back. I have been thinking about trying to get it off. I'm going to pay attention to this thread and probably learn something.

Any time I sell a tolex cab, I like to spray paint RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS on the side and charge an additional 30%.
