Just wanted to give everyone a heads-up about an excellent Latin Jazz documentary film I rented last night called "Calle 54". It features live performances by the very best Latin artists, including Tito Puente, Paquito D'Rivera, Gato Barbieri, Eliane Elias, and the Fort Apache Band. There is remarkably good bass work by the legendary Cachao, Andy Gonzalez, and Marc Johnson, but the undisputed highlight for me was watching Anthony Jackson's astonishing performance with the Michel Camilo trio. I've admired AJ's playing for years but actually seeing the aggressive mastery he has over his mighty Fodera 6-string was quite an inspiration. Does anyone know of other Anthony Jackson film/video appearances?
Wow! I didn't know you could rent it. I have the single CD and, like you, found Anthony's playing truly inspiring. Thank you for mentioning it. I have to see it.
