Correct me if i'm wrong....but don't computers automatically store all the passwords you enter somewhere deep in the hard drive... and if so...how do you acsess them... im using Windows 98 btw
Depends what program it's for...could be in the registry, could be in a password file. I know win 3.1 used to store them in .pwl files. I dunno if win 98 still has those. They weren't enrypted IIRC so I doubt it does. If it's for a website you might find it in a cookie in your temp internet files folder.
Oh boy... Trying to get past the filtration software mommy and daddy put on? I can't imagine you're going to get much more help here! Perhaps you might consider talking with your parents about what it is you want to access that has been blocked? --jeff
no thats not why i want it... if i wanted to get to "that stuff" i would just download it on kazaa the reason i want the password is cause she has teh setting to tight...and alot of the time different threads on TB are blocked...not to mention countless emails and news sites
Ah, good plan. Again... don't you think it might be easier to talk to your parents? Tell them the setting is too tight and it locks you off of bass/news sites! Interestingly enough, I have a year long contract with a community centre running a pilot program - I am responsible for the maintainence and upkeep of a pod of public access internet computers. We constantly run into this problem with our web-filtering software - it's too sensitive - it'll filter out stuff on the BBC news at the first mention of "sex", it'll filter out medical information if it mentions sex, etc etc - all stuff we don't mind being accessed...heck, it filters peoples hotmail inboxes when they have porn spam! It's a tough one, internet filtration...good luck. --jeff
i have tried many many times...my mom keeps saying teh same things..."well if its not bad then why are they being blocked"...im like "mom its talkbass...not "talk about different kinds of p0rn"...(i had to make the "o" a "0" otherwise i would block my own thread) sad isn't it?
What if you delete the directory containing the we-blocker files, then go through the registry on 'regedit', searching for 'we-blocker' or the name of the company who made it, deleting any references as you went? That's what I'd do.
Hey, I only said it's what I would do...I didn't say you should do it. If you don't know what you're doing with the windows registry then don't mess with it.
so what your saying is that if i do this: "porn sex booby naked women hot chicks" you wont be able to see this thread anymore?
you mean that actually works! hahaha im putting "porn sex booby" in my sig and im gonna post in every thread from now on jk man
Of course if you post a new thread about "What's your favourite porn site?", that one word will block the entire OT forum page...and if you were to register a new user called "Porn God" and pay a supporting membership, that would make you appear as the latest supporting member and block the entire forums for TB... ...if anyone can take this further, let me know
There should be some "override" list in the software, perhaps called "safe list"? Ask your parents to browse TalkBass, and if they find it appropriate (which there is (almost) no reason why they wouldn't...) then ask them to add "talkbass" to the safe list. Other than that, Komakino has more or less the right idea, although you'd have to boot up into safe mode first - however, don't you think your parents would be a bit suspicious if the software suddenly disappeared? --jeff
Well it may be a little shady but worth a shot. Go into your control panel (can find in "my computer") and click "Add/Remove Programs" and remove that pain in the arse. Either that or like someone else said, ask your parents to unblock certain sites, like talkbass, there should be a safe list, there always is with those things. Good luck.
internet filtering software used in a home is a giant cop-out by parents who cannot be responsible enough to watch over their children as they are on the internet. that being said. as stated a above, have your parents look over the user agreement for talkbass (the rules) and have them see that threads ARE closed if there is inapropriate material, also arent you getting kind of old for filtering? what 16-17 year old hasnt seen naked people? masturbated to them? or said many 'bad words'?
Amish 16-17 year olds? Besides I never did that sort of thing when I was 16 - 17... ...hahahaha, that was a good one
