Calling all (geriatric?) Deep Purple fans

    Some of my old farts contemporaries out there will remember Fireball - the tune where everyone wondered how Ian Paice could play a single kick drum like that (turns out he used a double pedal). Well the (not so great) bass solo has an incredibly sick tortured sound. Does anyone know what effects device would yield such a sound? I've never used effects before. I'm involved in a project that includes this tune. Our keyboardest is an effects freak and he gets a good sound on the wacked-out intro to the organ solo.

    I should probably listen to it again, but as far as I can remember, Roger Glover played a Rickenbacker 4001 on a Marshall stack at this time.

    I also remember I did experiment this setup a few years later, and it's true it wasn't hard at all to get some kind of a tortured sound ;)
