What features and qualities do you want from a tube preamp? If you could have one custom made, what would you ask for?

  3. Simplicity, and ease of use.
A switch to scoop or boost different frequency ranges is always nice - so that time fiddling on settings is low.
And a multiple tap transformer for aussie power.............

Two good choices are the Demeter HBP-1 and the Aguilar DB680 (I have both :D ) The good thing about both of these units, they both sound great before messing with the eq.

BTW my demeter does have a Jensen transformer on the DI

I also use the HBP-1, but mine doesn't have the Jensen D.I.. Before I found out from Pickebass that Demeter would replace it's existing D.I. with the Jensen, I bought a Radial JDI MKIII D.I. box. Tone-wise I find the HBP-1 has everything I'd personally want or need from a tube preamp.
