ok, I'm just wondering if I can put Fender® Custom Shop ’60s J-Bass Pickups on my KSD Proto-J fretless. I know the bass is active pre-, but I don't know if the stock pups are passive or active. thanks for the help

    My guess would be....Yes.

The vast majority of 'active' basses have passive pups and active preamps.

Have you tried contacting Brooklyn Gear? Or Ken Smith? He might be able to help.

BTW. How do you like the bass? I'm GASsing for a fretless KSD 5. Wish they made them in sunburst.

You most deffinetly can put them in your bass. The KSDs have passive pickups.

Just make sure you know EXACTLY what the size of the PUs are before you buy them. While the all look the same at a glance, there are several different sizes of jazz PUs out there. Some jazz basses use a different length for the bridge and neck PU, others do not.

You may or may not want to start carving on the KSD, but just be aware that there is no guarantee that they will retrofit.

ground loops- I love the it as a four string, not sure about the five. it plays like a dream, sounds great, doesn't weigh several thousand pounds. my only complaints are that the EQ is not very useful at all, its longer than an actual J-bass by two or three inches, and if you anchor on the pickups, they get shoved down into the cavity.

Chasarms- I read something like that on EMG's website, I'm gonna go measure right now.
