Cameron recently picked up a late 70's Fender p-bass that he intended to be a project bass for some MIDI bass experimentation. Someone had modified the bass to add a j pickup in the bridge position. That bridge pickup left a little to be desired, so we started by putting a Joe Barden JB4 in the bridge. Then we eventually put a Barden P in the neck/p position, as well.

Cameron will post some pics of the bass in a bit, but for now... how about an AMAZING sound clip? Get on with your bad self, Cameron!!

    Awesome sound Cam,

I've got a 78 P that I may have to stick a Barden in now :D The "original" PU has a bit of "buzz" that I'd like rid of.

    Nice tune man.

    :D

    God Bless, Ray

some kid named justin from radford. has a very cantankerous style, yet it stays together. he's talented no doubt but even still, there are some interesting moments.. first time i'd played with him :p

  9. I figured it had to be a drum feature (call me Captain Obvious). He's a lucky cat to be playing with you - I hope he appreciates it. :D

I had to give another listen. Great bass tone. I'm usually not a big fan of the P-bass vibe, but in your hands it's something special. Thanks again!

Man - that bass sounds frickin' amazing, Cameron! Big, phat and mellow when you lay back, and then it's got growl for days when you dig in. :bassist:

Oh, yeah... and the playin' don't suck

Here are the before and after pics... the Bardens really helped the look, too, eh?!? They kinda tie the room together :ninja:

I dig the look. The PUPs help tie the whole thing together visually. I'm anxious to hear this bass WFO through his Schroeder rig now!

  15. So let me get this straight, every time a P Bass is micturated upon in this fair city, I'm responsible? :D :ninja:

Those look way cool! Man, that J pickup is really close to bridge, huh? Definitely a fun bass that must really be something with those Bardens. NICE!

That is a really good sounding clip!

I've also got a late 70s P that I'm thinking of changing pickups on. How would anyone characterize the Bardens as compared to the Fralins or the Lollars?

  17. LOUD. :D I'm a big sucker for the Fralins, but I recently got to play an old Fender Jazz with Joe Bardens...wow. They are seriously hot.

Hah! That echo's what one of their main endorsers says. He's the Doobie Brothers bass player from back in the day. His quote is something like "I love Joe Barden pickups, they're really loud." I don't know why I find that funny/amusing, but I do... :D

They're also humbucking/noiseless, they're VERY articulate... and they ROCK. I like them so much, I bought the comp... oh, wait, I just put 'em in my personal Roscoe...

    3000.
