in re where to go -

    basscentral.com - Gard (he's also a TB'er)

bestbassgear.com (the prices may be a little higher, but they will sell you a pre-wired package)

    :)

thanks. I don't have anything yet. I just was looking and it's for a bass I'm making myself so anything can go. I just don't want to go bankrupt making it you know. I'll try those out. Thanks a bunch.

here's a better question...Do preamps come in different forms. Does each have different resistors or something? Do they all have the same wiring?

not the same wiring and different forms:

    search for the:
    aguilar
    bartolini
    j-retro/u-retro

those are just my favorites :D ;)

  9. There are tons of different shapes and sizes when it comes to preamps. I'd guess that shaded part is a preamp, which is usually like a big computer chip, complete with resistors and stuff. Some, like the Aguilar OPB-3, are miniscule, while others take a lot of room.

well, it's a wiring diagram on the seymour duncan website for the seymour duncan replacement preamp system. As peeps said, the 'shaded box' is the preamp itself.

As I said, it's the Seymour Duncan music man replacement system. Details on the seymour duncan website. From the knob configuration shown, it's the 3 band eq version.
