I am installing new SD quarter pounders in my Jazz bass. I was wanting to know If I can leave the covers off the pickups or do I have to put them on and what are the pro's or con's in either direction? Thanks

The screws that hold the pickup in place go through holes in the covers, if you have another way to secure the pickups without interfering with their operation, then no, you don't need the covers.
