I'm planning to add one on my VMJ. The bass is on order at my local dealer so I have time to bought the new bridge before the bass came to my door.
As far as I know, yes it should fit fine. As a matter of fact, I am due in my Gotoh bridge today for my Squier VM Jazz (cheaper than the BAII)
Does the BAII fit in the same hole or do I have to drill holes ti fit the bridge? Does the Gotho the same quality of thew BAII?
Im pretty sure it is the same 5 hole configuration, so no, no drilling. Not entirely sure about the Gotoh vs BAII, I just wanted to (hopefully) add some sustain to my VM Jazz and I thought the upgrade at the bridge would help. I didnt want to spend that much on it so I went with the Gotoh as this is more of a "backup" bass. I have a Geddy Jazz and that already has the BAII on it (and has tons of sustain). I would do a search on here for the Gotoh vs BAII info. Im sure its been debated before.
I installed a Gotoh on my VM Jazz and I had to drill the holes slightly, the oringinal screws were to large for the new bridgeAnd the new screws were to small....
Yes you can put a BAII on a Squier VM. It should be a drop in replacement with no issues. I have installed to BAII bridges on Jazz bodies (not on a VM though) and it was as simple as strings off, screws out, screws in, strings on. Now intonation and tuning however.....that is up to your skill level... BTW, the BAII may have a higher action than you like if you have your bass set up crazy low....some folks have had to put a shim under the neck to raise it up off the body cavity and I have heard of others who recessed the bridge into the body....
I have a badass II on my j bass and a gotoh on my p bass. Personally, I like the gotoh a little better. It's still high mass, retains the vintage look, has endless sustain, and is about half the price of the badass. For the record, both were exact replacement parts i.e. no holes drilled.
