Hey, guys! I need help identifying this bass. I have the chance to buy it, but so far I could not discover its model. The headstock is inusual, and It reminds of the bbn4, but it's not quite similar and the pickups don't match the bbn4 either. Can anyone here help me? Any chance of it being a fake Yamaha?

Sorry about the image quality. It's screenshots of a video.

The body does look like an RBX170, but the RBX170 neck has 24 frets.

This headstock is really something else. I asked The owner for more info, and allí I've got is a couple of other pictures that does not Inform about the precise model.

The first-gen RBX had 22 frets. I had an RBX200F from around 1992 that looked a lot like this. And yes, the original headstock was four-in-line; somebody cut this one down.

    Thanks, guys.
Well, It does look like a rbx200f headstock that was cutted and modified. But... I mean... Why would anyone do such a thing? Lol

And if it is, indeed, an altered headstock, do you think I could give this bass a try, or should I avoid It? I'm kind of a newbie in the bass world.

I don't know where you live but if there are other options, you should keep shopping.

    First off, WELCOME to TALKBASS!!!

Now, roughly where are you? (Country, or state, if you're in the US, will suffice.) That will help us help you. We have members from all over the planet here. The closer we/they are to you, the more we/they can help.

That said, I would absolutely avoid a very inexpensive bass that has had structural modifications. Swapped out electronics? Sure. But taking a saw to it? No.

Thanks again! I'm from Brazil. There are local bass shops in my town, but I think that I'm feeling a bit shy to go there and try the basses, since I can't really play yet. Also, I was trying to save some money, buying a used instrument, but then I'd have to go online. I'm still thinking about what I should do... But anyways, I guess I will search a bit more and left this Yamaha behind.

I’ll disagree. While the headstock isn’t pretty, it’s not something that will cause any problems. The RBX is a solid entry-level instrument. If it’s available at a good price, I think you should go for it.
