Hi all I am looking into getting the Ashdown Little Giant 1000w head, now I know I will need 2 cabs to get the full whack out of this baby, but with money on the hard side I need to do this in stages. Can anyone recommend me a good 4x10 to get started with? Thanks
The ABM cabs or the Mag ones? Just a bit confused as the ABM ones are 600w @ 8 ohms. Does this mean it can handle 500w at 4ohms or not? If the LG head is 500w @ 4 ohms per side what is the minimum speaker handling I would want, not sure when it comes to using 8 ohm cabs and 4 ohm heads!!
Hey, can't help you with the ABM or MAG thing, but maybe with the confusion: If you get a cab rated at 600w at 8 ohms, you will not get the full 500 w out of your amp, as these are delivered in a 4 ohm load. Probably more around 300w, but that's just a guess not knowing your amp. Your 600w 8 ohm cab will handle it easily - but you'll be pushing your amp. If you get the same cab in a 4 ohm version, you'll get the full 500w from your amp - and your cab rated at 600w should be just fine. If you plan on running 1 cab/channel, 4 ohm cabs will give you more headroom than the 8 ohm ones. Hope that helps. CONGRATS on your new amp!
ashdown also makes a 410 that is a 4 ohm cab and you can pick em up used usually for $300-$400... sound pretty dang good.
Get two 8 ohm 2x10s instead of one 4x10. Stacked vertically you may find you never need more, but if you do your amp would be able to power one or two more of them.
