i want to use a cab with my hartke 3500. i was looking at an SWR 4x10, and an ampeg 4x10. they both handle 400 Watts RMS, except the Ampeg is rated at 4 ohms and the SWR is 8 ohms. would i have problems running my amp through either of these cabs? which would you recommend?
Well, you can run fine with any of those. Can you specify what models are those? I guess the Ampeg is a SVT410HLF or BSE410HLF The SWR is a Workingman? If this is correct... Then I would choose the Ampeg 410HLF. It will be a better stand alone cab and you will get the full 350 Watts out of your amp, while you will only getting about 225 on the SWR because of the Impedance. What you should not do, is run both cabs toghether because of the too low impedance.
Unless you want to run two 8 ohm cabs at that same time, then you might want the SWR. I would go by sound alone.
Well, i would get the 8 ohm one. You'll get about 30% less power that way, but then when you have more $$ you can get another 8 ohm and this way you'll add up to 4 ohms and have the whole 350 watts. I dunno if i'm assuming too much, but i think 2, 4-10 cabs with 8 ohm each will probably sound louder than one 4-10 cab with 4 ohms, simply because there are twice as many cones moving air. But maybe i'm wrong and the reason why the ampeg cab is 4 ohms is because its as powerful as 2 of the swr...
yea... but the SWR and the AMPEG cost the same... i figure the ampeg is more worth it. altough 2 4x10s would be nice... money money money...
I recommend the Ampeg because the impedance is lower, therefore you get more watts, therefore it will be louder, therefore its better!!!
