To start, I love my 62 AVRI P bass. Just a great bass and I love everything about it especially the wide/slim neck. I've kinda lost my love for Jazz basses since I got this one 4 months ago. I've tried a P/J before and loved the sound. I figure a P/J would be an appropriate second bass and a good compromise for my lack of Jazz bass. Does anyone know of a P/J that Fender has made with a neck similar to the 62 P? I'm looking for strictly Fenders and please no basses with a P pickup and that weird Musicman style pickup in the bridge. Oh, and let's see photos. :hyper:

I'm not sure what the neck stats are on your P bass. My Fender Aerodyne Jazz P/J has a standard jazz neck made of maple in a "C" shape with a satin polyurethane finish. The rosewood fretboard has a 7.25" radius (184mm) and 20 medium jumbo frets. Scale length is 34" (864mm) and width at the nut is 1.50" (38mm).

This bass is for sale, BTW. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f126/...s-p-j-pre-loved-players-dream-28-pics-995219/

I have 2 P/J's....both with Jazz Necks. The Fender Custom Shop Precision Pro Closet Classic has a meatier Jazz width neck on it while the Fender Deluxe PJ Bass (MIM) has a slim Geddy Lee style Jazz width neck on it.

the 62AVRI has the widest neck I've played on any P bass, I really like it too. I don't believe you're going to find a Fender P J with that particular neck profile, none that I know of anyway.
when I use a P bass and want that J bass bridge pickup sound, I step on an eq pedal with the mids boosted and the bass cut, it works fairly well.

  5. If they did a PJ with a 62 RI neck I would own it, thats the perfect fender to me. J in the 60's position, side mounted jack with a VVT setup and a 62 RI neck-awesome.

I'm with you, OP. you'd probably need to pick up a replacement PJ body, and an AVRI neck (stratosphere?)

Already checked Stratosphere... ha! They only had the Japanese versions of the neck.

If I could find a beat up AVRI for cheap, I'd just have it routed and be done.

The neck on the Reggie Hamilton Standard Jazz is certainly different from other Jazz necks but I fear it is the opposite of what you want: narrow and thick! If you can find one in a store to try it would be worth a try. Sometimes you find that it is the middle ground you dislike and both extremes work well for you.

I am in the same boat. love the neck on my 62 reissue but want a PJ. thought about buying a warmoth PJ body or a loaded fender PJ special body and just swapping the neck over.

There's nothing wrong with the japanese RI necks, I have a 70s RI cij that has one of the sweetest skinny P neck I've ever played on!

Interesting. I found the MIM Deluxe PJ neck to be almost twice as thick as a Geddy Lee.
