The definitive sounds of many basses. For instance, what, in general, does a jazz bass sound like? Precision, stingray, rickenbacker? Stauts, Warwick, Alembic, Wal, etc...

Not trying to compare quality or anything, I'm just curious what each brand/model's signature sound is. Thanks!

The answer will vary quite a bit, as there are plenty of ways to describe a sound or tone. Your best bet would be to hit up The Youtubes and query "______ bass demo" or something. Else, look up some famous players of the aforementioned models.

    Here's a start:
J-bass: Marcus Miller, and these: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Fender_Jazz_Bass_players
P-bass: James Jamerson, Duck Dunn (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Precision_Bass_players)
    Stingray: early Flea
    Rickenbacker: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Rickenbacker_players
    Warwick: Stuart Zender, P-Nut
    Alembic: Stanley Clarke

I'm taking the easy way out by not answering your question directly, but that's what I would do if I were trying to look into signature sounds.
  3. Maybe you should go to Youtube, and see what you can find.
