I’m trying to find a currently in production, candy Apple red P bass with a matching headstock. The closest I’ve found so far, is a Lakland Skyline 44-64 P/J. If I really just want the P pickup are Fender Custom Shop, boutique clones, and used (as or more expensive than a boutique) my only option? Edit: Added a picture and link to the Lakland. Lakland Skyline 44-64 Custom PJ Ash - Candy Apple Red with Laurel Fingerboard Edit 2: I just realized that picture was of a Skyline P and was able to find one for sell for $200 less than the P/J. Now I need to answer the age old debate P or P/J.
Check out G&L. You can order it in a bunch of colors. Right now it's about 8 to 10 weeks for an order. Any G&L dealer should be able to order it for you. I have gone through Rocket Music for mine. Joe
Not on the Tributes. They come as they are. You'd need to get a US bass but it wouldn't have to come from the custom shop. You can order a US G&L with a lot of neck and color options. They still come off the regular factory line, just with your options. Check out the G&L web site and look at the USA Finish and USA Options. There are more options that are available that aren't listed, for instance, Empress wood for the body. The custom shop has even more options and adds a lot of money. I've worked with Greg at Rocket Music, as have a lot of TB members, and you'll be surprised how affordable it can be. Any G&L dealer should be able to help you order one. I was shocked when I inquired on my first one. Joe
Lakland also has a slab body p bass with matching headstock: Lakland Skyline 44-51 Candy Apple Red, rosewood fingerboard I think it looks awesome. You could also get a Nate Mandel signature one and ask a tech to paint the headstock. Otherwise there are also some custom options that are not too expensive.
Im not sure where you are located but this Polish luthier gets great reviews and is not extremely expensive (and the site is nice to play around with) Custom Shop | Public Peace Otherwise something like Warmoth could be an option?
I’m in the US. I feel like single color custom from Public Peace would be a waste of talent. I’m going to add them to my list of basses I want to collect and get something wild from them. My great grandparents were from Poland, so getting a bass from there would be a bonus to me.
The USA-G&Ls are as good as it gets...they play and sound even better than they look. I have two L2000s...if I had the money I'd buy an LB-100, an SB-2T and an ASAT, too. Nothing wrong with the Lakland, nothing wrong with Fender, either, but they're just not for me. That CAR LB-100 sounds like a bargain to me...I'm big on matching headstocks.
You definitely don't see that color hanging up wherever you may go. I don't have a purple bass but I was lucky to find an orange P bass clone.
Or the ability to put a jazz neck on a P bass. The minute they offer that I’ll order one. I’d love a tug bar and ashtray option as well, but right now I just want them to be able to marry a P body with a J neck.
That’s the other color I’m looking for. Im pretty sure I’m going to get a purple 55-02 or a candy Apple p bass.
Candy apple, matching stock, yessir, I like it. Rosewood or maple board, matters not. Good luck with your search, you have more options than you can shake a stick at.
I kind of want a p neck to try it, but I have a j and like the j neck, so another j neck is fine too.
Man, G&L is awesome they have Custom Shop level of variety and options and Factory prices. The L-2000’s look sweet, I still want a p bass but damn I’m gonna burn a whole in my pocket with all these sweet bass options.
