I have Peavey Fury P-bass(not sure which model, picked it up in a pawn shop), and tried to replace the frayed wiring from the volume pot to the jack(I am an amateur electrician, but know my way around enough to do simple maintenance on my 4 and 6 string instruments). Originally, there was a white wire connecting the volume pot to a red wire, which was connected to the jack. After replacing the wires, I got a Horrible buzz, but was able to get a little sound from the bass. After putting on a section of shielded wire, I was able to eliminate the buzz. Now there is a small ground hum whenever i touch the metal, but I can't get any sound whatsoever from the bass. Am I just missing a key wire or what?

You may have to replace the volume pot. You can jump it out to see if that the problem.
