I got one of the newer special stingrays. I need to replace the batteries. I can't get the dam door to open. Help!

Nothing happens when you push down on the tab up top the compartment?

I had that same problem with my plastic battery compartment. Mine is a 2017 SR5 so I used a small screwdriver from one of those elcheapo jewelry screwdriver sets and levered it up gently..very gently where the catch part is. It opened eventually but to avoid further issues i tied a small bit of ribbon through the catch so it could be easily opened in future..check the pic. Keep at it as I know they are stubborn..be careful and work slowly.

  4. Wow, that seems like something EBMM should remedy going forward, especially for the price new Stingrays go for these days.

I totally agree..I paid a lot more money for that bass and had to wait months for delivery through a special order here in Aust to find they fit a crummy cheap hard to open battery door. It needs addressing for sure.

  6. CAD & AUS is approximately the same, so I totally feel for you.

Two years ago, I had priced a Bongo 6 with a retailer and was quoted more than $3K. I eventually located a new, old stock Bongo 6 in a PDN finish I had wanted for a long time, for a reasonable price.

They are a drag. I use a heavy pick on my newer StingRay.

I like the old style better.

I finally got it open. It seems to be the trick is to push the little catch tab in rather than up and at the same time start to force up the lid and rub your tummy and pat your head and it just pops open. Dam I didn't know playing the bass was going to be so hard. Of course I got a slight scratch on the lid. I am going to put it up for sale shortly. Great bass but I am a fender man for sure. I got a slight crackle in the jack to I need to sort out. Thanks for the tips guys. Talkbass grooves! Here is a pic they include in the case. It was no help at all.

It should be done with any midle size knife, just keep the focus.

There's 2 doors on the Specials.
First time is very tight, flat headed driver (eyeglass/jewelers is too small IMO) to gently encourage it to release/open.
Cycle the door(s) a few times; just to the point of it completely closing (before catch) works wonders for future reference.
    Good luck.

Odd. Have had an EBMM Sterling for 6 years now (same battery compartment, I think) and I have never had an issue opening it. Maybe they changed the design since then?

Maybe you can contact EBMM and they can send you a new door?

One issue with the battery boxes on my Ray was the type of 9v battery , I had put in a Duracell [ Industrial ] 9v with is ever so slightly longer than a normal Duracell with made it almost impossible to open. I had no idea that they even made different sized 9v's , thought they where all a standard size.

This is a good suggestion but I must admit I laughed. If he can't get the old one open or off, he can't do anything useful with a new one except get angrier.
