I tried. I really did. Went from June 26th till today, and did great. But I'm back. Car problems actually lured me back in. My quitting has/had nothing to do with any of the people here. Only to do with me. I'm a member of this forum, and another non music related forum. My plan was to quit both, and a stupid video game I spend too much time with, for the entire summer (I'm off from work) so I'd be more productive musically. I have been actually. Have a song almost completely written and recorded, and got a lot of other stuff done, including finally getting a website for myself up. It's only halfway done and super basic still, but much better than the myspace page that used to be connected to my domain. Yep. Hmm.... OK. Also want to put in a good word regarding all the people here. Yeah, people can get combative at talkbass, there are a handful of trolls (though they're usually more entertaining than harmful), and things can get ugly once in a blue moon... but the overall vibe here is one of love, tolerance, and community. There's a good vibe going on at talkbass, and a rare one. You don't find that at many forums. At least not ones I've been a member of. Although the Ernieball forum is pretty cool too. On the bass side, anyhow. Guess I just wanted to put that out there. Going to lay as low as I can till September rolls around, but dang... Talkbass, I just can't quit you!!!
you could go cold turkey, unplug the computer, pack it away somewhere, and go outside and do something around the house that will take lots of time to complete. OR, if you've been meaning to get a new computer anyway one of these days, and you have some left over fireworks and............... I think you know where Im going with this.
I tried once too. I made it about as long as you did. Some of these guys I have met in person, so this experience is much more personal for me than posting messages to random people on the internet. -Mike
I tried too. Haven't picked up a bass in a couple years, but I still pop on every few days to read what's up with you clowns. You all are a great bunch of clowns, many of which I've had the pleasure of meeting in person over my decade here on the board.
I've never really outright quit but have taken breaks from time to time. I think that approach works a little better
I did the same recently. Not tried to quit, but was busy and didn't have time, so I made an active attempt to cut back. But, here I am... That and my phone rings off the hooks cause you guys and your damn post reports.
I havent met that many TBers in person, but I come on here 5 days a week and have done so for 4 to 5 years. Though you may still be people on the internet youre definitely not random and I think of TBers as friends of mine.
W/all the aforementioned love, why quit? I mean, unless you get sore Seriously, it's just a thing- use it or abuse/overuse it- your choice. IMO/E your posts are genuinely useful and entertaining. You would be missed if you checked out permanently.
