    Hi,

My old, cheap, Czech made Jolana bass has a great tone, attack and longest sustain, but the neck is crappy, so the bass is not playable. I like characteristics of the body very much, so I'd like to know what kind of wood is it. Seems to me it is maple, but which, hard or soft? Maybe someone can recognize it?

    Thanks :)

Definitely not my area of expertise, but could it be Alder? That's what it looks like to me.

I'd say alder too. Looks very, very much like alder we have here in Finland.

  4. I also think it's alder. Those little dark lines you see perpendicular to the grain are very charasteristic of alder.
