    Vehicle: '96 Sable, 3.0 Vulcan, 85k mi.

    Problem: Electrical.

I've had this car for about a month and a half, so I don't quite know it from top to bottom yet. The problems start after the engine warms up after about 20 minutes of continuous driving. At first, I'll lose my stereo. Although it will be on, and all of the displays and such function properly, I have no sound. However, this only happens when in gear. I will regain sound in Park and in Neutral only. Next, the seatbelt indicator will flicker, despite me wearing it. Occasionally, the power windows and windshield wipers will cut out simultaneously with the seat belt indicator. Also, the power steering will cut in and out.

Anybody know what this could be? Anybody have/had any problems like this before in any vehicle. I'm no electrical expert, so I kind of want to get a good diagnosis before I look for it. Again, these symptoms gradually increase starting with the stereo's sound cutting out. The problems only occur when in gear, Drive, 2, 1, or reverse. Problems go away in Park or Neutral, or after the engine has had time to cool. I don't know if temp is any indication of any symptoms, this is just what I notice. There aren't any loose fuses, and so far, there are no evident loose connections. I just thought I'd ask some of the gearheads at TB before I tear the dash apart...

I was trying to dig up some more info and read a of a similar problem. Would you guys think these could be the result of a bad ground?

The transaxle range switch is bad. It's located on top of the tranny where the shift linkage hooks up.

    Easy fix for the DIY'er.

Hey Mike, since we are talkin about sables I've got a real mystery. My interior light stays on sometimes after I get in the car and pull off, The door is open light stays on when this happens but no doors are open. Want to take a shot at this one?

This topic came up a lot when I was searching the symptoms for my problems. Sometimes it was as simple as the switch in the door jamb being stuck. Try lubing it up with some WD 40 first.

Mike may be giving you the answer you want to hear, but I'm not going to sugar coat it - your car is haunted.

You're assuming I haven't yet had it tested for paranormal activity.

  14. You know what that means, don't you?

Yes, it's time for Eric to sing again!! Yay!!

    If there's something strange
    In your neighborhood
    Who you gonna call
    (Ghostbusters)
    If there's something weird
    And it don't look good
    Who you gonna call
    (Ghostbusters)

I ain't afraid of no ghost
I ain't afraid of no ghost

    If you're seeing things
    Running through your head
    Who can you call
    (Ghostbusters)
    An invisible man
    Sleeping in your bed
    Oh, who you gonna call
    (Ghostbusters)

I ain't afraid of no ghost
I ain't afraid of no ghost

    Who you gonna call
    (Ghostbusters)
    If you're all alone
    Pick up the phone
    And call
    (Ghostbusters)

I ain't afraid of no ghost
I hear it likes the girls
I ain't afraid of no ghost
    Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

    Who you gonna call
    (Ghostbusters)
    If you've had a dose
    Of a freaky ghost
    Maybe you'd better call
    (Ghostbusters)

    Let me tell you something
    Bustin' makes me feel good

I ain't afraid of no ghost
I ain't afraid of no ghost

Don't get caught alone, oh no
    (Ghostbusters)
When it comes through your door
Unless you just want some more
    I think you better call
    (Ghostbusters)
    Ow

    Who you gonna call
    (Ghostbusters)
    Who you gonna call
    (Ghostbusters)
Ah, I think you better call
    (Ghostbusters)...

    Rock on
    Eric

  16. Alright, how about one on its cousin, the Ford Taurus. My power door locks are freakin out lately. The only one that consistantly works is the rear drivers side. Every once in a while, the drivers will work, but only after pressing the unlock button twice. The passenger side never works anymore. Its a 2000. Its not the battery in the remote either, because the power door lock switch in the door doesnt work either.

    Thanks
    Dave

    Check me out

And me, for future reference & great source of info

  18. Very cool, thank you very much.

  19. Your door switch is actually on the door lock mechanism inside the door. You would have to take the interior door panel off to get to it.
