Our family is needing a new car, because my dad works out of town and needs something to drive at his apartment in Pitt, along w/ something to drive when he is home. So we decided to buy something for me, and he'll take my Ford Taurus to Pitt w/ him. We went car shopping and i've baisically narrowed it down to two cars. A Suzuki Vitara and a Saturn SC2. Both are '99 models and both are five-speeds. About the same in price, the Vitara is about 500 dollars more, but its blue-book value is about five hundred dollars more. I really like sporty cars, so i'm definatly leaning toward the Saturn, but i'm also thinking that my gear would fit in the Suzuki alot easier although i can still get my Silverado Special, bass, and accesories into the saturn, its just slightly more difficult. I know this is long, sorry, I'd just like to hear what you guys thought about these two vehicles and if you've had any experiences with either of them or other cars from either Saturn or Suzuki.
Well, don't know much about the Suzuki's. But the Saturns are absolute garbage-I'd stay away from those. A master tech I work with calls the Saturn's the American Yugo's, they're that bad. Toyota's and Nissan's are good cars-any of those fit what you're looking for? Actually, Nissan's have some impressive horsepower. Good luck in your search.
My parents traded their Saturn in on a newer Chevy Tracker. The Tracker is basicly the same as Suzuki Vitara they love the Tracker it's a V6 with 4 wheel drive..it's kind of small for my tast..
I dont think the Saturns are all that bad, they hold up ok and Ive seen many over 100K without major failures. Imo they are too small and too much plastic for me, though. The Grand Vitara is also imo too small, and good luck getting parts for one when you need them. We had one sitting at our shop for a week waiting for wheel studs, a brake drum, brake shoes and a rear shock. Personally I'd buy the Saturn over the Suzuki anyday of the year, but if 4WD was a requirement Id get either a S-10 Blazer or a Cherokee.
Thanks guys. I'll keep all that in mind. My aunt buys nothing but saturns and shes never had a problem with them. I'll let you guys know what i end up with. who knows though, i might just buy some beat up station wagon somewhere
I have a few friends who drive Saturns of various models and years. While the general impression that I get from riding in them is one of cheap build quality and parts, all of them are running in good condition and don't spend much time in the shop.
