I recently picked up a 2005 Warwick Thumb 5 BO with an Ovangkol neck and body, and a Wenge fretboard. This thing looks practically new, but it seems like the wood is rather dry. It has a natural finish, but it doesn't seem like it is waxed which I thought all natural finish Warwicks were. Should I be waxing this bass?

  2. When you change the strings, It is a good idea to wax it. If not every change, at least every couple. This will prevent the finish from wearing.

Wax it up with a beeswax furniture wax. Pure beeswax. Don't need to bother with the Warwick branded stuff.

Definitely wax the body but NOT the fingerboard. I use the 'lemon oil' specfically made for fingerboards. I've used Dunlop, D'Addario, and PRS oils and they all work fine.

Here's the manual if you need it.

  5. The Wenge boards definitely dont need much care. I dont think I ever oiled mine in the five years I have my Corvette six string.

I clean the frets with brass polish. Make sure you don't get any on the fretboard.

Dunlop lemon oil on the board.

I tried Howards' wax and feed. Looks shiny but didn't seal the body like I wanted. Went back to beeswax. Don't neglect the body because it could start to splinter.
