    Ken Smith is one of the luthiers Carl actully gives props too. I read an interview that mentioned that. And yes I thnk they are friends.

    I'm curious to know how many people like CT basses just because Les Claypool plays them. I wonder how many people who love them, have ever even played one....

    I was able to play a bass that was almost a Carl Thompson.
    It was built by a guy that used to work for Carl. When he left he took some misc parts with him assembled the basses himself and then called them Thompson prototypes.
    The bass was at a GC in Indy.

    It played very nicely, but there were flaws on the neck / fingerboard area and on other places.

    I have had the good fortune to touch 2 different CTs.

    I will just be polite and say that they are not my cup of tea.

    I will refrain from further comments.
