Greetings, bass shoppers. What we have here is a gorgeous Carvin (now known as Kiesel) PB4, which is their P-style bass model. It has a J pickup as well as the P, and gets all of the passive PJ tones you would expect. I also have a PB5 in my arsenal, and that one isn't going anywhere, for I love the tone - Carvin nailed the P-bass sound with these pickups. They sound similar to the Fender pickups they are based on, but with a little more range, I find, especially in the treble register, which sounds crisp and clean. Indeed, the bass has a very "smooth" sound, and dialing back the tone knob results in appropriate thump and chocolatey goodness. Controls are Volume-Blend-Tone on this passive bass. Fit and finish are exceptional; the bass has a high-end feel without the high-end price. Why am I selling? I have too many 4-string basses, and I need to recoup funds after buying another bass, so no trades. This one is the victim of a last-bass-in, first-bass-out policy, unfortunately. The new owner will love it.

The PO bought it at Manchester Music Mill, and the spec sheet did not come with it. He estimated the weight at 9.5 lbs. I don't have a scale, but that seems accurate; it's not a light bass. He also said that the body is walnut - that seems correct as well. Neck and body are beautiful, as you can see from the pictures. The abalone inlays are stunning. It has a Jazz-width nut, and is very playable. It's strung with a brand new set of GHS Pressurewounds, and the setup is low and fast. The finish is in great shape except for a cluster of dings on the back of the body - I tried my best to capture them in one of the photos. The bass will ship in a well-padded but slightly beat-up Warwick Rockbag.

$850 firm shipped CONUS. PayPal works. In-person pickup is difficult, as I'm on an island in Maine currently, but if someone wants to meet me near the docks in Portland I'd do a $750 cash deal there.
