I'm thinking about getting the Carvin B4 Kit, but as you would probably expect I have some concerns.

Foremost, will I actually be able to put the thing together? I have very minimal woodworking experience and decent wiring experience.

Secondly, about how long does it take to put together?

It took me about 3 days to put mine together, and most of that time was spent waiting for the finish to dry.

The only soldering you'll need to do are the pickup leads and the bridge ground wire (if you stick with the passive electronics, I don't know what exactly is involved if you go with active electronics.)

The instructions are available on Carvin's site under the "manuals" section; they go into detail about applying a tung oil finish, which seems easy enough. Myself, I went with a few light coats of polyurethane, which I then lightly sanded with extremely fine (2000-grit) sandpaper to a satiny finish.

Cool! I think I'm going to build a four string active J/J fretless.
