I was offered an LB70 fretless bass for $400 shipped. It has a Koa body. Is this a good deal? How is this as a fretless bass?

What are the electronics on it?

I'd say yes, definitely. Especially if it's a fretless, Carvin fretless basses rock because of the ebony fretboard and their (usually) flawless necks. Plus with the koa, you'll have one sweet bass for less than half the price it would cost new.

I think fretless Carvins fit an interesting niche. About $600 will get you a basic, passive, bolt-on fretless 4-string bass (the B4 model) that's of high quality, and you still have many options to choose from (including the all-important lines or no lines option. ;) ) Carvin basses are already good values, but like Snarf said, their fretlesses are especially good values.
