Bass Pic. Bass Pic. I ordered a Carvin PB5 about 10 weeks ago and it just arrived this week.

I chose just the P-Style pickup with active/passive electronics, ebony fretboard, stainless steel frets, black pickguard, black headstock, open-grain black satin finish and maple neck finished in clear satin.
I specifically asked for a Swamp Ash body with lot's of grain because of the finish and I got it.

This bass has the lowest action of any bass I've ever owned. It's nearly effortless to play and sounds absolutely great. It's nice to call upon the active electronics to get that extra punch and also be able to use it in the passive mode to get that P-Bass sound.

Tell me what you think of the finish and look. I'm extremely happy with the results.

    Very nice! Congrats...

How much of the P vibe does it have in passive mode? More modern or vintage or neither?

    Needs more black.

Nah, that's nice. The flat-black on the wood-grain is different & cool too!

Looks killer, nice choices. Was that an option 50 finish on your build sheet or does it say something like Jet Black, Satin matte finish?

Usually I think all black basses look a little too boring but this one looks stunning.
