Does anyone happen to know how these necks feel? I really like ibby soundgear and fender jazz necks. I've got smaller hands so I'm more comfortable with a faster, slim neck with low action.

I just found out about these carvin basses, and I'm liking the idea of a semi-custom usa built bass for a reasonable price. But the neck profile could be the dealbreaker and I don't have anywhere to try one out.

I have a sb4000 that I just love. One of the reasons being the neck. It is definitely a fast neck. I would say it is similar to a jazz neck, although maybe a tad flatter. I am at work right now otherwise id do a little comparison. In the end though if your prefer a smaller, fast neck that is similar to that of a jazz's then you will like the S's profile.

Here is a picture of mine. I know you can't see the neck but I just like to show it off! ;)

Standard radius is 12", so flatter than a Fender Jazz neck. Mine feels slightly thicker front to back than a typical Jazz neck, but it's 1 1/2 " across at the nut like a Jazz neck. All in all, I'd say just a little chunkier than what your favorites are.

There is a huge mega-thread on the SB4000-5000 basses that will give you a ton of info. Just do a search and it should be easy to find.

    Very comfortable, I thought.

It's a comfy neck. It's not too different than my '93 Ric close to the nut. It fits well in my hand.

    Hey phalex,

Your avatar is disgusting.. I know that is probably what you are going for. If your gonna use 1908's porn stars. Use Ginger Lynn.

I am hoping the Sb4001 will be the best. I just orderd 2 of them. A fretted and a fretless..

I don't wanna see Ginger Lynn's face with that chest hair.

To be relevant to the OP, ummm... I want an SB4000 someday when I'm all grown up and have the money.

If you have the opportunity to try a G&L L2000 or JB with a #6 neck, I would recommend it. The 1.5 nut and 7.5 radius makes for a super slim and super fast neck if that's what you're looking for. I own one and it's fantastic!
