SB5000's are great basses IMO! Love the neck's, thin front to back.
Mine is my go to 5 string.

I have owned some very high end basses, and I just picked up an SB5000 and all I can say is WOW! The build quality is amazing, neck is buttery, tone is absolutely incredible. I've owned a $5000 MTD 435, which I absolutely loved, and I'd be hard pressed to pick which one I'd rather play. Obviously a different type of bass (J bass vs modern) but seriously - I don't think you can do much better than these carvins for the money, or really at any price unless you are just all about the collecting thing or the aesthetics. But the carvins actually do look nice too and are very comfortable to play.

Man, I always thought these basses looked so slick minus the pickguard. Great price, too. GLWTS.

I hate to wish a slow sale on somebody's gear. But, to be honest, I'm hoping like hell this is still available around the beginning of March. Because, I'll snatch her up real quick. Have you ever played the Carvin LB75? That's my main player that I gig with. And, I was wondering if they have that same feel, if that makes any sense. I have a pretty varied bass collection, from boutique, to vintage. And, I always pick my Carvin to play out with. I was just wondering if yours was similar, as far as that Carvin "feel" goes.
    Thanks, Steve

These are great basses. I had an SB5001 for a while that was one of the best 5ers ever.

How do you guys trade basses that play & sound so good, so freely? Man, I wish I could do that. Everything I own, I've owned for close to 20 years. Lol.

G.A.S. for something different, usually. But that particular one was a divorce casualty for me...needed the money! :)

Oh, I know how that goes. I literally gave my ex-wife a house, and 20+ acres of land, just to sign the papers. But, my strategy is to get it back thru a public auction when she doesn't pay the property taxes. Lol.

I've owned both. I'd say it would depend on your pickup configuration on your LB75. I had a humbucker neck and the music man style in the bridge with the piezo bridge as well. I loved that bass and wish I never traded it in. To me my LB75 was silky smooth and great neck feel. The SB5000 doesn't have the same deep C feel like a Fender JB, it's thinner which I liked. The J99 single coils in the SB5000 are very lively with awesome midrange. I'd say I prefer the tone of the SB5000 over the LB, especially for live situations.

  14. Has anybody bought this thing? If not, is it still for sale?
