Can it be done? Can it be done simply and cheaply? Thanks.

  2. It can be done for free :D

Plug line out on tape deck to line in on sound card. Use Windows Soiund Recorder to record .wav file and then use any one of about a billion freeware programs to rip the .wav to mp3.

I haven't played around with my Sound Recorder a whole lot, but as far as I know, I am only able to record 60-seconds worth of sound on 'er.
