I'm looking for bass tunes that are catchy. Often people ask me to play something and I'll play a bunch of bass riffs. But as they say "something they can groove to"

  2. You might need another bassist to make it sound right, though. :bassist: :bassist:

A few songs that everyone will recognise the bassline to (with the exception of National Anthem) and will be able to "groove" to.

    Pink Floyd - Money
    Blur - Song 2
    Radiohead - National Anthem

If you're looking for something they can groove to, try some Sublime lines. They are catchy and get ya movin while layin down some serious thump. :)

Or, you could always bust out War's Lowrider or the theme to Barney Miller or something.
  5. Primus? I usually wank around on some Claypool if I don't have anything else in mind. American Life, Eleven, Too Many Puppies, etc are some of my favorites. They are pretty easy once you get the groove down, but they kinda sound hard and impressive to the un-enlightened.. :bassist:

Try some Cake songs. Espcecially one called "Up So Close"

The Smith's have a lot of songs with catchy bass lines as well.

Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison... That line is catchy and if they have a pulse they can "groove" to it...

The issue is primus typically has some pretty dissonant sounding stuff. (here i'm thinking jerry was a racecar driver) only good for grooving if you really are just there for the thump.

Money is a good bet, as is slapping and quasi-improving the riff from "play that funky music whiteboy"

but the one i tend to have the best luck with is "Brick House" by the commodores. gets people dancing every time

Lot's of good suggestions from different era's above, as for the 80's VH will get you nothing while Howard Jones or the Police is $$$$.

anytime i wanna play something impressive sounding, but still groovy, i bust out battlestar scralachtica by incubus. most of the song is pretty basic, but some of the fills are crazy hard sounding. :ninja:

People are idiots, when they say "Play something I can groove to" they mean "Play something I recognize." So any melodic bassline that lots of people know is your best bet. Example: Longview by Green Day.

"Play that Funky Music" or at least the main riff, is recognized by none musicians pretty easily. I did that one for basketball games [i played in the pep band].

    That's all for now.

Thanks for the ideas another one I didn't see mentioned is "My Girl"..

Ok so nobody dances to it, but its a good one nonetheless.
