what are some cd's with good drum work? me and my friend are going to start a band but he wants more practice before and wants to listen to some good drum work. any help would be much appreciated. TIA!
You have to narrow it down a little, it's pretty useless, I can name hundreds of great drummers/CDs with great drumming off the top of my head.
Birds of Fire - Mahavishnu Orchestra Billy Cobham rules! All the old Cream albums. Ginger Baker should be dead! John Fogarty, Premonition Live great drummer on that CD, really locks. and a few thousand more ... Thor
My drummer isn't too bad, if you want I can send you some MP3's. We are more of a rock band, but still, just keepin the beat, not going too crazy, keepin it solid, its all good.
I've always thought very highly of Blink182's Travis Barker and Green Day's Tre Cool. Listen to some of them, they are really good drummers... Black Sabbath has some awsome stuff, particularly the War Pigs era... Drop Kick Murphys, they seem to have a mix of marching drum music and punk style, really sweet. I hate to say it, but Korn. Sum41 has a pretty cool drummer, he does some real interesting stuff. Another vote for tool... Bela Fleck And The Flecktones, Gary Willis/Tribal Tech, their drummers are killer. ya...
Anything with Tony Williams on it. Look into 62-67 era Miles, his solo stuff, everything. The first album i heard him on was stanley clarke's s/t and that was probably the first time i've ever been blown away by a drummer.
I'm a big fan of Level 42 drumming, very tasteful, but still complex. is it true that 3 of the members in level 42 were drummers befor they hooked up together?
but Future man doesn't play drums... he plays the Synth-Axe Drumitar! Gwar has some of the most solid drumming i've ever heard.
Metallica - ...And Justice For All Green Day - Dookie Mudvayne - LD.50 Slipknot - Iowa (or) Self-titled -Jon
Any Galactic album Queens of the Stoneage - Songs for the Deaf (David Grohl really plays well here) any Tool album
Michel Camilo Trio - Triangulo (w/ Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez on drums) The Roots - The Roots Come Alive (w/ Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson on drums) I also reccomend pretty much any CD that features Dennis Chambers.
Go get the new Led Zeppelin DVD. Best deal out there. Over 5 hours of solid rock drumming for about the same price as a 45 min CD. I would have paid a lot more.
