I would like to change my avatar, however, the picture I want is too big. Could someone please let me know how to change the pic and what program to use?

Thank you in advance in helping me.

I use a freebie pic editor called IrfanView --

If you download it, open your pic file, select "Image",
then "Resize/Resample". I think the limit for avatars
is 75x75. So under "New Size", change the "Width"
and/or "Height" to 75 or less.

I did what you told me to do, however, it is not working. Every time I change the width the hieght changes to something else. Then I go and add the modifications or size for that matter to 75 and then save it, I go to change my avatar and it still states that my picture is too big. Could you pleae tell me what I am doing wrong?

    thanx.

There is that little checkbox called "Preserve Aspect Ratio".

For instance, I've got a pic that's originally (Width) 763 and
(Height) 1042. Height being the larger of the two dimensions,
I set that one to 75. With the Preserve Aspect Ratio checked,
the width goes down to 55. The Width "tracks" the Height, IOW.

You could click on the Preserve Aspect Ratio - that is, turn it "off".
Your pic may look a little weird at that point if you set both to 75.

Another thing you can do is square-up or crop your original...
open the pic in IrfanView. Hold the left mouse button down
within the pic. Keep an eye on the top where it says "X:Y".
Drag the cursor around the pic until the X and Y numbers are
equal. Then select "Edit" and "Crop". Then "Image", "Resize-
Resample". Set the Height or Width to 75. If the Preserve
Aspect Ratio is "on", height should track width. Remember,
neither should be bigger than 75.

ok, now I did what you had said and now this is what is coming up:

The uploaded file is not a valid GIF or JPG file. Please ensure that it is and try again.

Can someone please tell me what that means? Gosh I am starting to feel real stupid now.

    oh dearie dear :)

If you're still using IrfanView :D, try "File" and "Save As".

In the second box towards the bottom, it says "Save as type".

Use the down arrow button to the right to select "JPEG - JPEG Files".
