    Anyone done it?
I have a couple 12ax7s about, and I was thinking of popping the top off of the amp and replacing the tube. See how it changes the sound.

  2. i recently acquired a gp12smx and would also be keen to hear some tube replacement stories

Preamp tubes are easy to change. If you have them laying around, can't hurt to try them out.

I replaced the stock one in my RAH350SMX with a JJ's high gain 12ax7 and it definately changed the sound for the better IMO. It has a slightly warmer/fuller tone than the stock tube. If I had the money I would try some of the more pricey tubes just for the heck of it but I'm very satisfied with the tone I have.
