Took my old strings off to put my new ones on my epiphone thunderbird and the bottom piece (height adjuster) where the strings rest on dropped totally dropped out when I took the strings off.is it suppose to be that loose?

    Constant state of flux
Yes, that is completely normal, just put it back together.

3 point tailpiece, yep. It slides onto the 3 studs.string tension holds it in place

Put it back on, no big deal.
Next time, you could remove three old strings, and then put on three new strings. Then, remove the fourth string and put a new one on. That will prevent it from falling out.
