Is there a certain way one should go about when wanting to change the color of their bass themselves.

    hi,

I remember the first tele bass I got in the minutemen. it was natural when I got it so I spray painted the body w/white epoxy enamel you'd use on a refrigerator! fender's are easy cuz you can unscrew the neck to get it off and all the body parts come off pretty easy. I hung it on a coat hanger and gave it like twelve coats, giving each one many hours to dry.

Hey Mike, did using spray paint change any tonal characterstics of the bass?

    hi,

maybe a little but the final result was that thick of coat. much thinner than a commercial/factory job. I used a sealer for the first/primer coat so the paint wouldn't soak so far into the wood.
