what is involved in changing the pick guard on a P-bass?
1. Take the old one off.
2. Put the new one on.
Actually, there's a bit more to it on the P-bass. You have to take the pots off the old one and re-install them back on the new one before you put it on. Be very careful when removing the screws around the perimeter, and more careful when putting them back in. They tend to strip fairly easily. I replaced the pickguard on my EBMM Stingray 5, and it was pretty easy. Just be deliberate and methodical ... er, um, meticulous and thorough ... or uh, slow and careful. Something. That's all.
