I recently purchased a Charvel Eliminator Bass 1990 any ideas on how to adjust the truss rod . Under the plate is a rod with nut but it is a square not and embedded into the wood , I pulled the neck to see if it had a heel adjustment ,nope .Any ideas ,thanks Tony

This is a photo of the square nut and the threaded truss rod .Do I need to add a nut and tighten it for adjustment ?

Looks like you're missing the truss rod nut. This style truss rod has a brass hex nut (like Gibson). Yours seems to be missing...

Yes, this truss rod is a single action, so it can only force relief out by tightening the nut that should be on those threads. I don't know these well enough to tell you If a gibson truss rod nut would fit.

Since the bass was MIJ it is probably metric threads also

  11. Likely true. Don’t try to force a nut on there or you can strip the threads. Then you’ll really be in a pickle.

I found a nut that threaded right on and I was able to take the bow out of the neck with just an 1/8th of a turn. Thank you for the advise

Just be careful, painted basses (and guitars for that matter) can have lackluster woods beneath the paint. Paint could be hiding glue lines, multi plank bodies without nice matching grain, even knots. Its always a risk stripping off finish. The poly on things like this can also be a pain to remove requiring lots of sanding. Not that you shouldn't do it, just know what you could be getting into :D

  18. You talking about stripping finishes - what color is it now? (I'd love to imagine a period crazy neon green or something)
