I'm really new to bass, 2nd day lol, and I got a Charvel 4 string at music go round for $99. I really just wanted one to play around with, record, and play drums too. So I got this Charvel going on my dad's word that Jackson was top of the line and Charvel was its sub-company. I'm happy with it, it sounds really nice, but i want to know what model it is. Apparently Charvel was bought out, so they can't help me. It looks at lot like the "CSM-2B"? But i have yet to see one with the wood color headstock thing 1 2 3 4 5 6
man I can't believe I missed this post almost 15 days later, unless you asked this question in one of the jackson threads somewhere else? and already found your answer...ya it looks like a CHS: cause this CSM is painted: basically both models are just the fenderhead version of the model 2:
Hey, that bottom one is my old bass from 1989! Where'd you get it! That was a much better bass than it had any business being; Played nice and, once I replaced the cheap p'ups, it sounded good enough for rock&roll...
That's just like my first bass! I bought it new in '95. All these years I never knew the model #. I have always kept it when other basses came and went but I didn't play it for around 10 years until last year when I put Hipshot ultralite tuners, Dimarzio model PJ pups, push-pull series parallel 500k pots, and a No-Load tone pot and WOW! What a bass!. The Dimarzios work REALLY well for this bass. Well worth the money.
well that's a GOOD post, cause if it was yours and someone stole it 2 years ago, and was finally selling it, that would have been a messed up thing for the seller, and someone would be going to jail. and you would have said something like that right off the bat ... oh man, that's funny, and awesome.. I'll PM you and tell you the story. ya I needed a black one to finish the series off---the Kahler was the bonus. I just picked this red one up today, and here's the other 4.
I had a similar model to these with only the P pick-up,not jazz,as my first bass.Threw a Dimarzio Split P in there, the sound was truely thunderous!I miss that bass sometimes. Whats a "No-load" tone pot?
like the Fenders, MIJ in those days..high quality, long lasting and always sounded good for rock ( for those who like pointyHead basses )
When the tone-pot is all the way on, it "clicks" and is completely out of the circuit, just as if you had the pups wired directly to the jack. It just gives a little bit more top end because with a regular tone pot even on full still bleeds a very tiny bit to ground. It was only a couple bucks more than the regular pot so I thought I would give it a shot.
These are absolutely Rock-n-Roll basses and the DiMarzio pups just complete the package. I love this bass!
for as long as I have been on this board, I never saw a picture of that thing here.. I did the same to my model1, changed it to a EMG. The rest of them are they way they should be j2000 for the model3+4, and passive on the model2. very nice axe with the natural head
Thanks! I only wish it had a Maple board and it would look sweet! The clover ultralite tuners did it for me. I thought the headstock looked too big for the original little tuners it came with. This bass has gotten more playing time than my Warrior or my SR5 lately. I can't put it down.
Hey....I got one of these CHS4's too...I havent gotten that thing out and played it in a long time...its the Dark Metallic Blue
the 4 was a lot harder to track down, since they only made em in 88 so I was satisfied with c.a.r for the color. the new red 1b i got is gonna swap necks with the 2b so I can have the 2 black and maples, and that red one will have the rosewood..
ya I see it now...we're gonna need an electronic air cleaner soon for the dust cloud, because all the closet basses are gonna get played?!?
