I have an Essex 5 string jazz that I've been gigging with that sounds and plays good for under $150.I haven't heard anything close to it in price that sounds as good stock.Alder body Jazz tone.

well I know that everyone hates em. but I played an OLP 5-string bass once at a shop and it was pretty good. It was selling for 200. I ditto the SX thing... I have a jazz bass from SX and it's rad. www.olpguitars.com. check em out.

Not everybody hates OLPs. I've only ever tried a couple at a store and I was very impressed. Nice gear.
