Cheap Backup Bass?

Well
im looking for a p bass
just for a backup

im ckinda afraid of what people will do to my bass after leaving it at school
i know what people do to them
just pushing them out of the way


so i need a cheap bass, probably squier or legacy or something

that will sound fine, and can be a basis for customization for me

so any ideas,
