Any of you guys use a cheap, healthy meal replacement? Something not too high in sugars and preferably a bar or shake.... Looking to try to eat five small meals a day to speed up my metabolism...

    Thanks,
    CA-R :)

I guess you can replace those 5 Whataburgers a day
you have been eating with 5 of those White Castle sliders.

  3. How about a fruit? Avoid bananas though, because they are high in calories.

Oatmeal porridge with milk is a cheap healthy meal replacement too.

Sounds like you and I are in the same boat, NJL. Anyway, I've been a fan of those carnation instant breakfast type things. Once you get used to them, they taste pretty good. Also, I'll occasionaly bring a couple pickles and a small peice of cheese to work. That usually helps me out.

The Met-Rx RTD shakes in a can are pretty good, as well as Detour bars (if you have a candy jones).

PS, look to up your protein intake and lower your carbs. Protein in and of itself requires your body to work a bit harder to digest, thus raising your metabolism.

  7. maybe a good smoothie?
i know at the local smoothie shop they have meal replacement smoothies that cost about 3x the price of a normal smoothie and tasted like peanut butter, but fills you up...mmmmm peanut butter :)

yeah and they probably contain enough sugar to send you into diabetic shock. proably not the best choice.

  9. For breakfast, definitely rock the Oatmeal. It's healthy AND filling, so you won't be hungry for a little while.

naked fruit smoothies. I've only seen em in NYC and they're not necessarily filling, but a good meal replacement.

I would second fruits. Grapefruit is often suggested for breakfast diets because it kick starts your metabolism. I would imagine other citrus fruits have similar effects, so. I would say, up your fruit intake. You could also have a protein or energy bar. I like clif bars because they taste good, otherwise Pure Protein is the best protein bar for protein.

    hey NJL ,

I swear buy this stuff [IMG]

Alot of vitamin stores carry it as well as on line http://www.dpsnutrition.net/product_information.asp?number=DZ018&back=yes&dept=1039&last=1039

Its called Dymatise elite whey. Chocolet is my favorite and it good with just ice water in a shaker cup for a quick protien fix. I blend it with raw oats and peanutbutter or almonds for a compleat meal. The vannilla is ok if you add with skim milk but just ehh on its own....there are alot of flavors but I'm scared to try and be stuck with 5 lbs.

@ $24.00 for 5 lbs you can't beat the price and you can custom tailor the number of scoops you use plus milk, oats etc to get the calories you want per meal.

IMO its one of the best tasting whey proteins out there and it mixes thin, not gloppy thick like metrx or someothers.

let me know if you have any other questions.

    Also ,

I'd stay away from bars!!!! just glorifired candy bars with protein and the quality of protein in some bars is subpar and not usful. I find that they don't fill you up either, with the shake your getting more water also, and thats a good thing.

    What's a naked fruit smoothie?

I like fruit smoothies and I've drank plenty of them while naked but I don't know if I've had a naked smoothie.

I do enjoy the oatmeal. Dump water and oatmeal in a bowl, microwave for a minute, and bam! Breakfast.

I don't like all the goofy flavors, though. I stick with the basic three-flavor variety: Apple 'n Cinnamon, Maple and Brown Sugar, and Sugar and Spice. Good stuff! (The Honey Nut kind is pretty good too.)
