Could anyone reccomend a cheap (Around £180 - £125) light P-bass that I could use as a start for a parts bass?
  2. P basses typically aren't light, so just search for the nicest, cheapest P bass you can find. I suggest looking at SX Basses as a good starting point. The woods are of good quality and very sturdy, and at $89 for a complete P bass, the price is hard to beat for a new slab of wood!
  3. Also, you could get a short scale P bass that would be lighter but also 30" scale as opposed to 34" standard.

How do you define light though? My Precision is about 8.5lbs and to me, that's light. If you get a body made from alder vs. one made from ash, it's going to be lighter.
