i've got a japanese epiphone thunderbird (set neck like the gibson studio version.) going into a yorkville xm50 (sometimes with a digitech x-series overdrive and boss bass chorus thrown in). it's a good setup for small clubs and church stuff, but i was thinking i'd like to get a little more tube sound (But i'm too poor to get a real tube amp). anyone have experience with cheap real tube pre's like the behringer mic100? how do they compare to other brands like ART? I know it's not going to sound exactly like a real all tube amp - i do have realistic expectations. are they worth the ~$50? and how do they compare to tube simulators and other such preamps?
